portrait of “Lavoisier seated before a bench before a table, pointing with his right hand to some plants which are standing before him in two glasses: his left arm is hanging down, and he is holding a book in his left hand. In the right background behind a low wall are the tops of some trees.” This allusion to botanical research is rather unusual since Lavoisier did very little research in this field. Also the features are quite far from the contemporary iconography of Lavoisier. Interestingly, Bosio, like Gerneray and David d’Angers, was also a pupil of David. |
