Text:	Lavoisier un des plus habile Chymiste de l'Europe. Il étoit fermier Général, et employoit ses revenus à cette science. Lors qu'on lui signîfia son arrê, il demanda huit jours; non qu’il voulut Vivre ce tepms la de plus, mais pur achever une opération chymique Très salutaire pour l’humanité; le nommé Dumas lui répondit Qu’on n’avoit pas besoin de chimiste!
Comment:	The text of the this gouache is based on Bouillon-Lagrange’s biography of Lavoisier published at the end of 1795 in the Joural du Lycée des arts. The same text inspired also the caption to Levachez’s and Duplessi’s engraving of 1798.
