Ebony-cased 'housewife'. Spool with four sections for thread, two now containing thread, one white and the other brown. An ivory knob screws into end of spool, closing the hollow central cylinder which was probably used for needles. The spool fits into black case, the upper half of which has its edges bound in ivory and screws into lower half. May have been for Lavoisier's journeys. |
